Jesus Calms the Storm

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Did you notice? When the disciples first got into the boat, the sea was calm, and Jesus told them they were going to the other side. He never promised the journey would be storm-free—only that they would arrive.

So often, when the storms of life arise, we forget His promises and begin to wonder if He has abandoned us. But Jesus is faithful. His Word never changes, even when the winds and waves do.

Today, hold on to His promises, no matter what storm you're facing. The One who called you into the boat is the same One who will bring you safely to the other side.

There are so many moments in life where we are waiting - waiting for the diagnosis, waiting for the unemployment, waiting for answers. We are waiting for the first breath, the last, waiting to walk down the aisle, to the courthouse, or waiting behind bars.
But did you know that Jesus is always with us? He is with us in all of these things and more. He is especially with us in the waiting.

"And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you." ~ Psalm 39:7

Father God,

Help me in my weak moments when I want to respond out of anger or fear. Help me choose my words, so l have nothing rude to say and only offer words of encouragement and truth. Remind me that I can do all things in Your strength, especially loving others.

Stand firm. Rejoice in the Lord. Keep the faith!

"The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet." ~ Romans 16:20

"Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them. He said:
3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, 
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, 
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, 
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, 
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

What is your drug of choice? I believe all of us at one time or another have used something to get through the day. It may be alcohol, drugs, food, television, shopping, and so on. And if you are still doing this, using something to mask your pain, then the enemy is winning. You are believing a lie that you need this and that God is not enough. Our go-to cannot be in the things of this world that only numb our pain for a time and come with great consequence. Our true hope is in Jesus Christ, who loves us and promises us in His Word to take all our pain and sorrow and wipe every tear from our eyes.

Dear God,

Please help me when I let the noise of this world drown out the sound of your voice. I am guilty of being too busy, too preoccupied, too eager to do other things than spend time with you. I admit that I have not surrendered my entire life to You. I am selfish and hold some things back that I still want to enjoy, even when I know they don't honor You.
Please forgive me, Lord. Could you help me? Train my ears to hear Your voice. Help me to prioritize my day and keep You first. Help me to surrender all that I have to You. Thank you, Father, for what You are going to do in my life. I am ready!

We spend so much energy white-knuckling our way through life, convinced that if we just hold on tight enough, we can control the outcome. But what if that control is just an illusion?
Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." 
The truth? Our peace doesn't come from controlling life, but from trusting the One who does. God is still on the throne. His love for you hasn't changed. He knows what's best, even when we can't see it.

Today, take inventory. Where are you gripping too tightly? Your kids? Your career? Your relationships?

What if you surrendered those areas in prayer and trusted His guidance and timing? Stop straining. Start praying. Let God do a new thing in you, and make your paths straight.

Did you ever wonder how you can share the gospel with others? By walking out your faith every day! People will take notice when we actively pursue Jesus in our daily lives. People will see Jesus in us. This allows us the opportunity to share the gospel. By our testimony! That is what grows the Kingdom of God! And as we walk this out daily, growing our truth and reclaiming our identity in Christ, we will be helping our friends, families, and community reclaim theirs! Hallelujah!

The basis of the Gospel of Luke 5:17-26 is that Jesus heals a paralyzed man after his friends lower him through a roof, demonstrating that He has the authority not only to heal physically but also to forgive sins. But I want to take a moment and focus on the friend's faith. How many of us tear off a roof to get to Jesus? How many of us push our way through a crowd to touch the hem of his robe?

Often, we give up when things don't go our way and we believe that Jesus doesn't want to heal us. But what would it look like to tear off a roof today? To keep making our way to Jesus, to keep pressing in, and not give up? His Word is His will, and he wants us healed and whole with an abundant life. It's time to believe!

The world will tell you there are many ways that lead to Heaven. But that is a lie. You can't earn, work, buy, or fake your way there. You can't follow the crowds, take shortcuts, or win a golden ticket. The Bible says, "You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it." Matthew 7:13-14 NLT

If you are searching today, let me give you a map - it's God's Word. Everything you need to know is there, and it will direct your steps.

Get ready for this mind-blowing, life-transforming revelation: faith isn't just believing without seeing.

To have, to activate, and to maintain faith, we need to exercise it by taking action. That could be stepping out and believing before we can see the fruits. It could look like confessing with our mouth before we can feel the results. It could even be trusting and believing while in a season or hardship.

Faith is stepping out and believing, in confidence, that whatever we ask for in prayer will be answered. Faith is an action word!

Anytime! We can approach the throne in confidence, knowing that we can come to the Father any time! You don't have to make an appointment. You don't have to call ahead. You're not going to wait on hold. Anytime, anywhere, for any reason, you can come to the Father, in Jesus' name.

Did you know that there are 10,005 minutes in one week? That's not only 7 days, 168 hours, 604,800 seconds, but a whole lot of time. If we have all of this time, why does it feel like we are always behind?

I know there's a lot to do: deadlines at work, groceries to buy, bills to pay, school sports, homework, errands to run, doctor's appointments...the list goes on. But when I think about how we move through our fast-paced world, trying to hold onto every minute of the 10,005 we have, we have to ask, "Are we setting the right priorities?" The Bible tells us to seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you. But I know in my old life I was seeking first all the things, without any hope of grabbing onto the Kingdom, and I missed out on His peace. I missed out on Him.

Today, let's reevaluate. What are we seeking first? Isn't it time to change direction and seek Him every minute of every day?

Today is my birthday. I am turning 56. When I look at this picture, you might think I am moving farther and farther away from this little girl.  I now have wrinkles, gray hair, and a slower step. But in all actuality, I am discovering her again. She was confident in who she was, she loved the Lord with all her heart, and she was courageous.

The Bible tells us that we must have childlike faith. Matthew 18:3 says, “Truly I tell you,” he said, “unless you turn and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” That means staying humble, trusting in the Lord for all our needs, and being teachable. All the things I was when I was a child.

I used to wish I could go back and warn this little girl about what was coming, to make different decisions, to choose differently. But every choice and decision has brought me to today, and who God has been refining. I am grateful for God’s redemption, restoration, and unending grace. I am grateful for 56 years. I am grateful for the journey. Happy Birthday, Ammie Lynn. Keep going…  

Doubt. We have all experienced it. And in our human minds, we are always searching for proof. Thomas shows us this in the gospel of John. He was one of the twelve disciples not present when Jesus first appeared to them.
"We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe." John 20:25

But one week later, the disciples gathered again, and this time Thomas was there. Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Stop doubting and believe." Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." John 20:26-26

This encounter shows us how important it is to stop doubting. Let's put aside our skepticism, have faith, and believe.

Have you seen one of these signs before? I have plenty of times while driving. But not only making my way from point A to point B on the road, but also in life. The question isn't whether we'll face detours and disappointments—we will. The question is: will we let the enemy steal one more day? If you’re being detoured today, trying to find the right road - it’s time to open up the ultimate road map for our lives - the GPS that will point us through the construction, the detour, the mess… God’s Word. He has the best laid plans for you. Jeremiah 29:11 plans. Believe.

When we don't understand what God is asking
or know how it will all work out
or where one step will lead 
or when we will see it
or how it will happen
or why we are doing it...
We do it anyway.
Our obedience is key.
Stay aligned with His Word.

If we want things to change, we must cooperate with God. It's time to stop holding onto the past, the unforgiveness, the sorrow, and our old ways of thinking. Offer them up to God! Give Him the old, and exchange them for new: new life, forgiveness, joy, and His truth. We can't have change without an exchange. Start today!
