Anger
Did you know that anger is a secondary emotion? Oftentimes anger comes when we feel hurt, afraid, rejected, frustrated, or humiliated. We tend to use anger as a way of covering up those vulnerable feelings and striking out at the one who has brought them up. In Jesus' life there were lots of reason for anger. He was regularly in uncomfortable situations, surrounded by crowds of people who could have easily hurt Him, frustrated with His disciples for not understanding who He really was, and rejected by the very followers who supposedly loved Him. But He wasn't angry. He was confident in His mission and in the One who had sent Him, His Father.
So many times in the past I reacted in anger, not giving myself a minute to think things through, assess the situation, or pray for strength. What about you? What can you now do differently, loving those around you as Jesus does?
