56 Years

Today is my birthday. I am turning 56. When I look at this picture, you might think I am moving farther and farther away from this little girl.  I now have wrinkles, gray hair, and a slower step. But in all actuality, I am discovering her again. She was confident in who she was, she loved the Lord with all her heart, and she was courageous.

The Bible tells us that we must have childlike faith. Matthew 18:3 says, “Truly I tell you,” he said, “unless you turn and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” That means staying humble, trusting in the Lord for all our needs, and being teachable. All the things I was when I was a child.

I used to wish I could go back and warn this little girl about what was coming, to make different decisions, to choose differently. But every choice and decision has brought me to today, and who God has been refining. I am grateful for God’s redemption, restoration, and unending grace. I am grateful for 56 years.
