Good Friday
Why do we call it Good Friday? It wasn’t good that they arrested Jesus. Spit in his face. Hit him, mocked him, flogged him, or sentenced Him to death. It wasn’t good that he hung on the cross, was pierced with a sword, and died a sinless man. Yet, despite this suffering, there is a deeper meaning to this day.
Good Friday is “good” because through the suffering and death of Jesus, God made a way for sinners to be saved. God’s plan of redemption, which began in the garden, ended in the Garden of Gethsemane, when Jesus was willing to drink the cup of wrath that was meant for each of us. We celebrate today the sacrifice that Jesus made for us, so that while He died, we can live. Today, remember why it’s good, and thank Jesus for the sacrifice He made on the cross for you and me.
